Tips and Tricks

Laying out your booklet
Laying out your booklet properly for printing can be a challenge. Remember saddle stitch books are booklet that are printed 4 pages to a sheet, folded in half, and then stapled at the spine.  You will want your booklet to be paginated in increments of 4 (8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 32, 36 and so on). MSPublisher and InDesign both have a "booklet" spread option that makes layout easier.  Use the guide to the left to understand how this works.  You can also submit your booklet files as individual pages, saved in page order, in one convenient PDF file.  When submitting multiple page books in JPG, or other image files, make sure to name each page with the page number in the title.  You will receive a PDF proof of your booklet to make sure margins, fonts and page order are correct.

Bleed
If your booklet has pages that bleed off the edge, add a minimum of .15" to you artwork to allow for trimming.  Be sure that all text and images are at least .25" from the trimmed edge to prevent them from cutting cut off.  If for example, your finished size is 8.5 x 11, then make your artwork 8.65 x 11.15 to allow for proper trimming.
